The True Unprofessional…

by Jeffrey Eraca

I am sure that in every profession there are people who cut corners of take shortcuts you know the people I mean, the unprofessional. Well unfortunately the Real Estate profession is not immune to this. However the unprofessionalism this post is about, let’s call them the drive away agent.

You as the agent pull up to a house and for any number of reasons your client says “no, this house is not for us” so, what do you do? Hop back in your car and leave. That is about as unprofessional as it gets. First off most home sellers take great care in making sure their house is in showing condition, which isn’t always easy with kids, and work. So, you as a real estate professional is simply telling my client that “To bad you made sure the house was clean this morning, I can’t be bothered to do my job”.

Secondly, what if you convince your clients to go inside the house and they fall in love with it? All of a sudden what they perceived on the outside of the house just isn’t that big of a deal and they want to make an offer on this house! You just drove off and took money out of your own pocket. In fact you just COST yourself money, because now you have to show them MORE houses, when this could have been the one!

So, as an alleged professional why not put your big boy pants on and explain to your clients that we made an appointment to see these peoples house, they have gone out of their way to make sure the house was ready for us. As a professional I owe it to these people to at least go inside and leave my card.

If I were to make an appointment to show your listings, and just drove off instead of showing the home. How would you feel? How do you think your clients would feel….Here is the funny part it would never happen, because I would NEVER do that…
